Being honest - by Kevin Painter
http://www.thesun.co.uk/scotsol/homepag ... aylor.htmlPainter, 43, said: "Of course the players are all sick of Phil, if he wasn't here then we'd all have won a lot more titles. "I would have been a world champion now and won a few other championships. "Phil has knocked me out in so many quarter and semi-finals. He's probably cost me a million quid in prize money. "The other players feel the same. "Every tournament would be wide open if he wasn't around. "But Phil has been phenomenal for the game. He has raised the bar so many times and that's why he has won so much and fair play to him, he's worked hard. "I do believe the public would also like to see different players win tournaments. That's not his fault, it's up to us to raise our games." Sorry if already posted, discussed.

Different tone to the Nicholson interview before he played Taylor last weekend. Mindset issue with most of these guys. Nothing will change until they do, and it probably isn't much related to levels of practice.

He went 1-1 the first 2 matches, both majors. Now its 22-1 Taylor. Lets give Nicholson some time..

Well we shall resume this thread in ten years time then My point was the contrast between the interview styles of the two. Yes Painter is probably battle-weary, and fuck knows he gets some shocking early draws on tv - never seems to bypass Taylor or Barney these days early on. Once Nicholson is owned, likely as it is, I wonder if his demeanour will change.

Re: Being honest - by Kevin Painter
Some players have success in the early going against Taylor. But then...
Taylor vs Anderson 7-1 It was 0-1
Taylor vs Klaasen 9-1 It was 0-1
Taylor vs MvG 9-2 It was 1-2
Taylor vs van der Voort 15-2 It was 1-1
Taylor vs Webster 3-1 It was 0-1
Taylor vs Whiltock 3-1 It was 0-1
Taylor vs King 16-1-4 It was 5-2

I don't think Nicholson is either, I just like the guy's unorthodox approach which I think aided him in that Players Championship win. Performance under pressure.

Re: Being honest - by Kevin Painter
after his performance against barney at the ally pally...you would think that painter would just shut the fuck up. if taylor retired tomorrow painter wouldnt even be in my top 20 of possible major winners. the guy has always been obsessed with taylor, the year callaby beat him painter, mardle and manley where jumping about in the players bar like they had just won the grand prix

Re: Being honest - by Kevin Painter
nicholson beat an off form taylor and as history tells us chances of that happening again are slim
nicholson only advantage is tthat taylors getting older whereas painter had to play him in his prime

Re: Being honest - by Kevin Painter
Interesting stuff.
Dont think theres any reason to get hysterical A3R1 - Painter is saying what most will obviously think. Its a veiled compliment to Taylor and the words shouldnt be interpreted in the way you have - Jimmy White said he was sick of Stephen Hendry in one of his latter world final losses and it was met with a laugh from the crowd as they understood the context and that he was actually complimenting Hendry by basically saying he was "annoyingly brilliant"
He also goes on to say what many people have been saying about the game, firstly that its not his fault and its up to the others to do something about it but also that the fans would like to see more variation on who picks up the silverware. All very valid stuff
Interesting stats theres masters about how people can get off to a good start against Taylor but then he slowly but surely picks them all apart and by the time theyve played 100 or so times they dont look at all capabale of beating him

Re: Being honest - by Kevin Painter
listened to Painter co-host a radio show about a month ago and he came across as a funny decent guy. He may have a chortle and the wheelies evil face on him but i hope he does well this year. A great player when on form, i wouldn't begrudge him a TV major win, think he deserves one at least.
